The author was asked in 1908 by theLynn Commission on Industrial Educationto make an investigation of European shoeschools and to assist the Commission inpreparing a course of study for the proposedshoe school in the city of Lynn. A closeinvestigation showed that there were severaltextbooks on shoemaking published inEurope, but that no general textbook onshoemaking had been issued in this countryadapted to meet the needs of industrial, trade, and commercial schools or those whohave just entered the rubber, shoe, andleather trades. This book is written to meetthis need. Others may find it of interest.
