PREFACE.
The Apocalypse should be regarded as a peculiarly interestingportion of scripture: a blessing being promised thosewho read, hear, and keep the things which are writtentherein. It has been subjected to so many contradictoryinterpretations, that any attempt to comprehend its meaningis often regarded with distrust; and the impression hasbecome very prevalent, that it is a “sealed book,”—thatits meaning is so hidden in unintelligible symbols, that verylittle can be known respecting it; and that to attempt tounfold its meaning, is to tread presumptuously on forbiddenground.
