This volume consists of articles and monographs upon theLatin Orient and Balkan history, published between 1897 andthe present year. For kind permission to reprint them in collectedform I am indebted to the editors and proprietors of The QuarterlyReview, The English Historical Review, The Journal of HellenicStudies, Die Byzantinische Zeitschrift, The Westminster Review, TheGentleman’s Magazine, and The Journal of the British and AmericanArchæological Society of Rome.
