2 I have been informed concerningyou and your cures, which areperformed without the use ofmedicines and herbs.
3 For it is reported, that youcause the blind to see, the lame towalk, do both cleanse lepers, andcast out unclean spirits and devils,and restore them to health who havebeen long diseased; and raiseth upthe dead;
4 All which when I heard, I waspursuaded of one of these two,namely, either that you are Godhimself descended from heaven;who do these things, or the Sonof God.
5 On this account therefore Ihave written to you, earnestly todesire you would take the troubleof a journey hither, and cure adisease which I am under.
6 For I hear the Jews ridiculeyou and, intend you mischief.
7 My city is indeed small, butneat, and large enough for usboth.

ABGARUS, you are happy,forasmuch as you havebelieved on me, whom youhave not seen.
2 For it is written concerningme, that those who have seen meshould not believe on me, thatthey who have not seen mightbelieve and live.
3 As to that part of your letter,which relates to my giving you avisit, I must inform you, that Imust fulfil all the ends of mymission in this country, and afterthat be received up again to himwho sent me.
4 But after my ascension I willsend one of my disciples, who willcure your disease, and give life toyou, and all that are with you.
