PREFACE.

The stories of the ten kittens toldin this book are true to life. Theyhave been gathered from here andthere over the country. All the kittenshave lived and played their little partsin the life history as told in eachchapter.

The purpose of this collection ofstories is to create more interest andlove for kittens on the part of ourboys and girls. If these stories helpsomeone to be kinder to little kittens,then the author’s purpose will not havebeen in vain.

MACK.

The story of Mack begins in a RescueLeague in Albany, New York,where he was born. The story wasvery interesting to me as the ladywho owned Mack told me about him.I will try to tell you about the unusualcircumstances in this kitten’slife.

Mack was a Tiger Persian kittenbut was afflicted with a disease calledmange when he was very small. Hismother had a very bad case of themange, but instead of being cruellytreated, her mistress took her to theRescue League where she could bewell cared for. While under treatmentin this League, which was ahome for sick, afflicted and homelesskittens, Mack was born. A short timeafter his birth he and his brothersand sisters became afflicted with thedisease of the mother. When Mack[12]was six weeks old the mother andall the kittens, excepting Mack, werechloroformed, because of their awfulcondition with the disease.

Mack was left an orphan kitten withno home but the quarters of the RescueLeague. One day a kind ladywent to this League and from all thekittens there she selected Mack to goand live in her home. This was verykind of the lady because Mack neededa home. Let us not forget this examplewhen we see a homeless orhungry kitten. It would be easyfor many people to make kittens happyin this way.

The lady who took Mack had a littledaughter who became attached to thekitten and in a few weeks they werethe best of friends. By the time Mackwas
