This canvas, valued at $60,000, hangs in the Masonic Lodge rooms atFredericksburg, Virginia. It is one of the several portraits ofWashington which the artist began executing in 1795 and which are themost famous of both artist and sitter. Of our First President, thiscelebrated painter has also given us his interesting pen-picture ofhis subject: "All of his features were indications of the strongestand most ungovernable passions, and had he been born in the forest, hewould have been the fiercest man among the savage tribes."
