The story of young people's lives is notcomplete without many and broad glimpsesof their school days. It was impossible todevote the space to this recital of the FiveLittle Peppers' school life, in the books thatshowed their growing up. The author, therefore,was obliged unwillingly to omit all thedaily fun and study and growth, that she, lovingthem as if they were real children before hereyes, saw in progress.
So she packed it all away in her mind, readyto tell to all those young people who also lovedthe Peppers, when they clamored for morestories about them—just what Polly and Joeland David did in their merry school days. Bennever got as much schooling as the others, forhe insisted on getting into business life as earlyas possible, in order the sooner to begin to payGrandpapa King back for all his kindness.
