The following Lectures, delivered at the request ofthe Christian Evidence Society, are now, for the convenienceof the reader, gathered together into onevolume, and earnestly commended to his seriousconsideration.
A short account of the general designs of theSociety, of the plan of the Lectures, and thereasons for their appearing in a different order fromthat in which they were delivered, will be found inan explanatory paper which the Bishop of Gloucesterand Bristol has been kind enough to draw up atthe request of the Committee. Though placed, aslast written, at the end of the volume, the attention ofthe reader should be early directed to this paper.
